São Paulo, December 2022 – Frigol, one of Brazil’s most traditional meatpacking companies, complies 100% with the criteria determined by the Sustainable Cattle Farming Consent Decree in an audit conducted by the Federal Prosecution Office in the company’s units in Pará. The resolution proves that 100% of the cattle acquired comes from rural suppliers who do not produce in deforestation areas, indigenous lands, or conservation units, and are not included in the list of organizations involved with slave labor.

After signing the commitment agreements, which define the adoption of practices to reduce deforestation and modernize the agricultural production chain, Frigol was submitted to a rigorous audit that verified the control of the origin of the animals.

“Sustainability is at the core of our business strategy. Therefore, this result is an important advance not only for us but also for the industry and society, which need to be increasingly aligned to sustainability-driven matters. We are fully aware of our role as an important part of global changes and this drives us to adopt practices that minimize the social and environmental impacts of cattle farming”, said Carlos Corrêa, the Administrative and Sustainability Director of Frigol.

Frigol tracks 100% of the animals originated and provides final consumers with the traceability through QR codes that are printed on all fresh beef products both in the domestic and export markets. To comply with the legislation, Frigol monitors farmers through the SMGeo platform. This platform performs satellite geomonitoring based on data from the Rural Environmental Register (CAR) of the respective rural properties.

POSITIVE IMPACTS

According to a report produced by the Union of Concerned Scientists[1], a non-profit organization of scientists for environmental protection, the audit is one of the main processes of greenhouse gas emission reduction and a major progress in environmental preservation. The study also indicates that the MPF’s work with this initiative contributed to reducing illegal deforestation of the Amazon Forest by more than 60%.

“It is necessary to preserve in order to produce. Frigol’s nature is precisely in this cycle and it needs to be balanced to continue working. Accordingly, reaching a compliance of 100% in MPF’s audit is an achievement highly valued by us since it values the fight against deforestation and other activities extremely harmful to the healthy maintenance of our production chain”, said the executive.

Frigol maintains its commitment to contribute and develop a management strategy aimed at the future, based on consistent information about the positive impacts on sustainability. “We are aware that as our relevance increases, the greater our challenges and responsibilities will be. We focus on investing in the sustainable acquisition of raw materials, best governance practices, and support the communities that interact with our business”, emphasizes Eduardo Miron, CEO of Frigol.
